Beneath a parked car, a very pregnant and charming dog named Kerry sought shelter. Fortunately, she was discovered and gently coaxed out, leading her to safety at a local shelter. Shortly thereafter, she welcomed five adorable puppies into the world.
Hearts & Bones Rescue, a dedicated non-profit committed to saving dogs, quickly intervened to assist Kerry and her new litter. Upon their arrival at the Hearts & Bones shelter, Kerry and her puppies easily transitioned into their new environment, clearly relieved to be off the streets. Katherine Hieber from Hearts & Bones Rescue shared with The Dodo, “Kerry is incredibly resilient and seemed happy to have a safe place to care for her pups.”
Kerry was quick to adjust, reveling in the kindness and attention given to her and her little ones. Despite her strong maternal instincts, she showed complete trust in the shelter staff, even enjoying human companionship during nursing times, sometimes gently holding a person’s hand with her paw.
Her warmth and affectionate nature were evident as she lavished staff with kisses and paw shakes. She never exhibited unnecessary protectiveness, allowing staff members to handle her puppies for regular health checks to ensure their well-being.
Kerry’s devotion to her puppies was unwavering. On her brief breaks outside, she would hurry back to remain close to them, unwilling to be away for long periods.
Through the dedicated work of Hearts & Bones Rescue, Kerry and her puppies soon moved to a foster home in New York City. There, in a caring and secure environment, the puppies could grow and flourish.
As these pups continue to thrive, it’s only a matter of time before they each find loving forever homes. With their charming appearances and sweet dispositions, they are bound to bring happiness to their future families.
