A six-month-old white Husky named Buckley was discovered wandering the busy streets of Santa Monica, California. This adorable pup faced continuous mistreatment, often tied up and tormented by those passing by. Despite these hardships, Buckley kept a hopeful spirit, his tail wagging eagerly for someone kind to notice him.
His fortunes shifted for the better one morning when a compassionate local rescuer came across him tied to a pole. She was deeply moved by the sight of Buckley, a beautiful dog somehow still cheerful in such dire circumstances.
Wasting no time, the rescuer acted promptly, bringing Buckley to Love Leo Rescue. The team there was amazed by Buckley’s resilient and cheerful nature. “Buckley is an exceptional dog,” shared Sasha Abelson, director of Love Leo Rescue, with The Dodo. “He is well-balanced and loving and didn’t let his previous experiences change his lovely personality.”
With the nurturing care he received at the rescue, Buckley’s physical wounds began healing, and his positive energy spread happiness throughout the center. It wasn’t long before Buckley’s journey took another heartwarming turn—he was placed into a foster home.
Angela, who learned about Buckley’s inspiring story, felt compelled to help and became his foster mom. She provided him the warm, loving environment he had longed for, and Buckley quickly embraced his new life, thriving in the affectionate companionship of Angela’s family.
“Buckley is a typical, happy-go-lucky Husky,” Abelson explained further. “He loves playing with his dog friends, learning new skills, going for hikes, and cuddling with his humans. He is just a perfect family dog.”
Buckley’s impact on his foster mom’s life was profound. Angela, who was on her path to healing from PTSD, found great solace and strength through her relationship with Buckley. “He is our foster who has helped me in my recovery,” Angela revealed. “He needs to be active and needs routine… which turns out is part of what I need too.”
Though Buckley enjoyed temporary solace with Angela, he dreamt of a permanent home. Love Leo Rescue made numerous appeals to find him the loving family he deserved, but it took a while before anyone expressed interest.
Finally, a family in Oregon discovered Buckley and instantly fell in love, choosing to adopt him without hesitation. “After months of searching in Los Angeles, he finally found the most perfect family in Oregon to give him the love, attention, and exercise he so deserves,” the Love Leo Rescue team proudly shared on Facebook.
We can confidently say that Buckley is now living his best life with this wonderful family, thanks to everyone’s tireless efforts and kindness.
