Animals, much like humans, form meaningful bonds, and dogs are particularly known for their loyalty and companionship. This story is about a faithful stray dog who refused to leave his injured friend alone, determined to seek help together.
In Florida, animal rescuer Betty Walter received a call about a dog involved in an accident. With her extensive experience in fostering and adopting animals, the caller immediately believed Walter was the right person to help.
Though already overwhelmed with animal responsibilities, Walter couldn’t shake off the situation from her mind. Therefore, she decided to check whether the injured dog received any assistance after finishing her work.
Upon arriving at the scene, she discovered the injured dog lying on the ground with another dog resolutely by its side. These two strays, later named Betty White and Allen, had moved to a grassy area nearby to await assistance.
Betty White, the injured dog, lay on the ground while Allen stood watch over her, demonstrating unwavering loyalty.
Speaking to The Dodo, Walter shared, “When I pulled up, there were a couple of dogs in the distance and he chased them off. When I got out of my car to look at her, he ran toward me… I had to assure him I was there to help.”
Initially, Allen was suspicious of Walter’s presence, but he gradually accepted her intentions to help. Realizing she needed assistance getting both dogs to safety, Walter reached out to a friend.
Together, they carefully lifted Betty White into the car. Allen was adamant about staying close, so they brought him along too.
The bond between these two dogs was extraordinary, and witnessing such devotion was incredibly touching. At the vet clinic, x-rays showed Betty White had a broken pelvis, which required surgery.
She recovered in a foster home, with Allen by her side throughout the ordeal.
The foster family soon realized how inseparable the duo was, noting their shared joy. Although Allen was available for adoption, his foster mom hesitated to list him, hoping they could stay together.
Walter explained, “They really love attention. They need someone who is going to give them lots of kisses and hugs. To keep them safe and make them feel safe.
Allen loves toys, so someone to throw the ball and play chase with. Betty wants a bed to lay and stay by your feet.”
In the end, Betty White and Allen were adopted by separate families. Nevertheless, both found loving homes in Florida, and their new families facilitate regular playdates, ensuring their cherished bond remains strong.
