Dogs have a unique way of bringing immense joy into people’s lives, but the journey to that joy can be filled with challenges for both the animals and those who care for them.
Caitlin Evers, who founded Caitie’s Foster Fam in Houston, Texas, knows this all too well. With years of experience, she has rescued countless animals, fostering over 280 dogs along the way.
Recently, Caitlin responded to an urgent call from a shop owner who reported a stray dog giving birth outside during a heavy rainstorm. Without hesitation, Caitlin rushed to the location.
Despite her extensive experience, what she found was heartbreaking.
In a TikTok video posted under @caitiesfosterfam, Caitlin shared the story of Bentley, a Basset Hound who had delivered her puppies over the course of the weekend, only to be discovered by shop staff on Monday morning.
Houston had been lashed by multiple storms, leaving Bentley and her newborns drenched and exposed to the elements. Caitlin was deeply moved by their vulnerability.
Upon arrival, Caitlin found Bentley huddling with eight puppies. As she later explained in another TikTok video, the mother had actually given birth to eleven puppies, but three did not survive the harsh conditions.
Although saddened by this loss, Caitlin was determined to save the rest. She carefully gathered Bentley and the surviving pups, transporting them to safety in her car.
Once home, Caitlin set to work bathing Bentley and her litter to rid them of a severe flea infestation. For the first time, they were able to rest warmly and comfortably.
Watching them sleep peacefully, bundled in soft blankets, was a poignant moment for Caitlin.
Tragically, another puppy did not survive in the days that followed. Despite her sorrow, Caitlin devoted herself to nurturing the remaining puppies, ensuring they had the best chance at life.
With time and care, the family began to thrive. Bentley and her puppies—named Ford, Lincoln, Mustang, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, and Rover—were now healthy and secure, on the path to a brighter future.
After enduring so many challenges, they were finally surrounded by love.
Caitlin, who frequently shares rescue stories on TikTok, saw her videos about Bentley and her puppies garner significant attention, quickly going viral. Comments poured in, with users expressing their admiration and gratitude.
One commenter wrote: “Having her babies and her with fleas and yet she is still trying to protect them. Hoping they all get bigger and stronger.” Another shared: “You are an absolute saint.
I’m moving to Houston soon and I really really would love to join your organization and help you! You are an angel.” A third simply stated: “Thank you for helping.”
The comments underscored the gratitude felt toward Caitlin’s efforts. While Bentley’s bravery as a mother was extraordinary, it was Caitlin’s dedication, along with the initial help from the shop employees, that ensured hope followed the storm.
Through Caitlin’s efforts, Bentley and her puppies found the rescue and care they desperately needed.
