Rescue Mission Transforms Abandoned Shepherds into Beloved Pets

Published on

When Sarah Ames learned about two abandoned German Shepherds trapped in a deserted house, she couldn’t ignore the urge to help. Racing to the scene, Ames was met with a distressing view.

The house was a disarray of garbage and discarded needles—a dangerous environment where the dogs had been left alone for weeks.

Surrounded by these bleak surroundings, one of the dogs was too terrified to come out, cautiously peering from behind a door with fear in its eyes.

Using treats, Ames gently encouraged the scared pup to move. With tentative steps and eyes full of sorrow, the dog gradually approached her rescuer.

After being comforted by Ames, the dog, named Hattie, expressed her gratitude by licking her savior’s face, finally sensing the promise of a new beginning. Ames reassured her that a positive change was on the horizon.

Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control soon arrived to take Hattie into their care. Ames collaborated with them to ensure a better future for the dog.

Middle Tennessee German Shepherd Rescue swiftly arranged for Hattie to be placed in a loving foster home, where she was surrounded by kindness and compassion.

Shortly thereafter, Ames found the second German Shepherd. A caring couple had come across the pup wandering and had been providing her with food.

Ames was saddened when she discovered the dog’s condition. Malnourished and neglected, her state was critical compared to Hattie’s. Yet, despite her hardships, the dog warmly greeted Ames.

This dog was named Phoenix. Metro Animal Control took immediate action to care for her, and soon, the Middle Tennessee German Shepherd Rescue took her under their protection.

Renamed Annie, she thrived in her foster family’s care, responding positively to their love and attention.

Hattie was the first to find happiness in a new home—a family fell in love with her instantly. For Hattie, now known as Rue, it was a dream come true, and her lively eyes showed her joy at finally being part of a family.

To celebrate the strength of these two dogs, Ames, Rue’s new family, and Annie’s foster parents planned a special event.

On the day of the celebration, Hattie and Annie were ecstatic to reunite. With wagging tails and enthusiastic sniffs, they enjoyed each other’s company. They playfully tore open their gifts and squeaky toys, relishing in the joy of the moment.

“Bringing them together and hosting this celebration signified a fresh start for both dogs,” Ames shared with The Dodo.
