A puppy named Millie, who faced a rough start to life, has found a loving home after a transformative operation. Just one year old, Millie lost her snout due to a brutal attack but now has a fresh start.

Before her surgery, Millie’s large tongue hung down from her damaged snout, as seen in images shared by her new owner, Kasey Carlin.

Videos also show the little dog joyfully running towards the vet team that saved her, in her new home near Brighton.

Known affectionately as “spotty mop” by Kasey, Millie began life as a stray on the streets of Russia. Animal activists found her with severe injuries, likely caused by someone deliberately stomping on her face.

When rescued, she was trying to scrape the decaying material off her face with her paws.

Kasey, 25, was deeply moved by Millie’s plight. With the help of the WID At Heart Foundation, an animal welfare group concerned about the world’s 600 million stray dogs, Kasey arranged for Millie’s transfer to the UK.

Using Google Translate to negotiate with the Russian Vyberimeya animal sanctuary, she succeeded in bringing Millie to safety.

Since arriving in the UK a little over a month ago, Millie has had more surgeries to help her live a more normal life. Her damaged right eye was removed, and a prosthetic added.

Kasey, originally from Scotland, was thrilled to welcome Millie into her home.

“When I saw her, I instantly fell in love,” Kasey shared, describing how she felt an overwhelming desire to give Millie a caring home upon hearing her story. “Her face was in bad shape; she was trying to clean away the mess herself.”

Kasey believes Millie’s injuries could have been caused by being used as target practice, though they might also have been a failed attempt at euthanasia.

But thanks to Kasey’s determination and the generosity of donors on social media, enough funds were raised to provide Millie with the specialized care she needed.

Now, Millie is thriving, playing and eating just like any other dog. In Kasey’s care, she joins three other dogs, including her older sister, Maggie.

Maggie was also saved from a dire situation and has since become a prized therapy dog in Brighton. Remarkably, Maggie survived despite having over 200 shotgun pellets in her body, as detailed by veterinarians.

Kasey’s passion for rescuing animals is a lifelong calling. Her father always said he would help any animal in need, and Kasey has followed in his footsteps by dedicating her life to animal rescue.

“My love for all my pets is equal; they’re just normal dogs who’ve had a tough beginning,” she said. “It’s incredible how much love they have to give. They’re truly perfect.”

Through her work, Kasey continues to show that compassion and care can transform troubled lives, one animal at a time.
