In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Doug Liman revealed intriguing insights into making the hit film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, particularly a scene involving Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie that Jennifer Aniston influenced.
Liman disclosed that during the production, there was a discussion about the music for an intimate scene between Pitt and Jolie.

Liman proposed using Joe Strummer’s “Mondo Bongo,” which he found alluring and tribal.
However, concerns were raised by Dave Matalon, who was apprehensive about potentially alienating Jennifer Aniston’s devoted fanbase, given her immense popularity from the TV show Friends.

Matalon worries that an overly provocative scene might provoke negative sentiments from Aniston’s fans towards Jolie.
Despite this, Liman managed to convince Matalon with the support of his female sound crew, ensuring the inclusion of the desired steamy music in the final cut.
Liman delved into the dynamic between Pitt and Jolie’s characters, highlighting how their real-life personalities influenced their on-screen personas.

He noted that Jolie portrayed a character reminiscent of Pitt’s real-life interests, such as homemaking and aesthetics, while Pitt’s character reflected aspects of Jolie’s adventurous and weapon-savvy nature.
Jolie’s lack of familiarity with suburban life added depth to her portrayal, contrasting sharply with Pitt’s character’s domesticity.
Liman praised Jolie’s dedication to her role, particularly her expertise in weaponry, which added authenticity to her performance.

Despite the unique challenges posed by the film’s production, both Jolie and Pitt delivered exceptional performances, contributing to the film’s critical and commercial success.
