We’ve all heard the phrase, “Adopt, don’t shop.” While there are many reasons to follow this advice, one of the most significant is to prevent irresponsible breeders from harming dogs.
Every year, backyard breeding results in hundreds of dogs being placed on euthanasia lists, with only a lucky few getting a second chance.

Pearl, a 12-year-old Poodle, was one such victim. For many years, she was exploited by breeders, and when she could no longer produce puppies, she was heartlessly abandoned.
Pearl had been fulfilling a high demand for Poodle puppies at a breeder’s home in Florida. But when her health declined after years of breeding, she was left on the streets with several health issues.
“She’s deaf and partially blind. We suspect she was used solely for breeding and then discarded,” Ryan explained to GeoBeats Animals.

In addition to her hearing and vision problems, Pearl had mammary tumors. Found as a stray in Miami, Florida, she ended up in a shelter with a high risk of being euthanized.
Fortunately, True & Faithful Pet Rescue from Venice, Florida, stepped in just in time, saving Pearl from euthanasia. Although her rescue marked a new beginning, Pearl faced a lengthy recovery. She underwent multiple surgeries to remove her tumors before becoming available for adoption.
However, Pearl’s age and health made it challenging to find her a forever home. That changed when Ryan, a compassionate dog lover, took action.

Already a caretaker for three senior dogs—Bogey, Phantom, and Lacey—Ryan welcomed Pearl into her home. She couldn’t bear the thought of Pearl spending her remaining years without a loving family, so she eagerly applied to adopt her.
Pearl quickly adapted to her new home, charming everyone with her sweet demeanor. She fit right in with her furry siblings and her new human mom.
Pearl didn’t take long to reveal her fashionable side, delighting in wearing her new sweatshirts, coats, and boots.

Despite her age and past hardships, Pearl thrived. She now enjoys good health, plays energetically, barks with vigor, and makes the most of her spacious yard. A newfound joy for snow has earned her the nickname “The Snow Princess.”
Pearl’s joyful life today stands as a shining example of the positive impact of adoption. Her story beautifully underscores the potential for dogs, even those with a challenging past, to find happiness and a loving home.
