Sako’s remarkable deeds earned him a spot in the prestigious Purina Animal Hall of Fame, an event held in Toronto to honor Canadian pets whose actions have saved human lives.

The fateful incident unfolded in June 2014 during a routine outing for potato picking and fishing with Joseph’s family.

Tragically, their car careened off the road, plunging into a forested area on their journey home.

Miraculously, Joseph and Sako emerged as the sole survivors, ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Despite Joseph’s severe injuries—broken collarbone, femur, and lacerations—he found solace in Sako’s unwavering companionship.

Throughout the long, chilling night, Sako remained steadfast by Joseph’s side, providing warmth and comfort in the face of adversity.

Their survival hinged on Sako’s quick thinking and protective instincts.
